Manufacturing process of Sodium citrate dihydrate
Step 1: Raw Material Selection
- Citric acid and sodium carbonate (or sodium bicarbonate) are selected as raw materials.
- The raw materials are tested for purity and quality compliance.
Step 2: Neutralization Reaction
- Citric acid is dissolved in purified water to form a solution.
- Sodium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate is gradually added to the solution under controlled conditions.
- The reaction takes place, forming sodium citrate in solution form.
Step 3: Filtration
- The solution is filtered to remove any undissolved impurities or particulate matter.
- The filtrate is collected for further processing.
Step 4: Crystallization
- The purified sodium citrate solution is cooled gradually to induce crystallization.
- Controlled cooling helps in forming Sodium Citrate Dihydrate crystals.
Step 5: Centrifugation & Drying
- The formed crystals are separated using a centrifuge to remove excess water.
- The wet crystals are dried under controlled temperature to obtain Sodium Citrate Dihydrate.
Step 6: Milling & Sieving
- The dried product is milled and sieved to obtain a uniform particle size as per specifications.
Step 7: Quality Control & Testing
- The final product undergoes assay, purity, moisture content, pH, and microbial analysis to ensure compliance with pharmacopeial standards (IP/BP/USP/FCC).
Step 8: Packaging & Storage
- The final product is packed in HDPE drums, kraft paper bags, or polyethylene-lined bags as per customer requirements.
- Stored in a cool, dry place to prevent moisture absorption and maintain product stability.
